Rare Fat Trails Frame

first off let me apologize for not hanging out in this forum more. i've been slacking.

i just picked up this little trials frame at my local bike swap from a former partner with Fat City. he left the company in 1986 and this frame was part of his severance package. as he tells me only about 5 were made. they were made for a group of trials riders in NYC. he said the industry was ignoring these guys to FCC decided to build them a few so they would be stoked.

this frame i have is a new old stock 26/24" trials bike from 1985. the chain stays have the bullets at the ends but the seat stays do not. it also has over the BB cable routing. the one that really confuses me is the lack of brake bosses. anyone have an idea why? perhaps it was an unfinished frame and as he left the company they quickly sprayed it protect it??? maybe to give you the option of running roller cams or canti's?

so, can anybody shed some more light on this puppy? i havn't decided if im going to keep it yet so if you are interested in throwing an offer out to me speak up.

thanks, Sky

Moots mounts maybe?

Most serious trials bikes of the era - that I can remember - were running double u-brakes or rollers, but, yeah, maybe they wanted to provide the option of cantis. No mounts (no hole even in the seat stay bridge for a caliper?) at that time spells Moots mounts to me.

There's at least one other 26/24 frame owned by a member of Fat Cogs. Rick, is it?

Cool find Sky!

those damn Moots Mounts are so hard to find and expensive. someone needs to produce a limited number of those again cause there are a lot of us in the vintage world that are in need of them. the paint is black so i might just have a buddy braze on roller cam studs. matching the paint will be a cinch so you probably wouldn't even know. anyone have Moots Mounts they want to part with first?

oh, and here are a few more items i pick up from the same swap vendor. now im just rubbing it in..... :)

i wont be flipping them any time soon. i really dont buy vintage mountain bikes to flip. i only sell them if i dont have any need for them or if i buy one in better condition. i collect these bad boys. at first i thought about selling this since i dont quite have enough money for rent but i dont know. the more i see it the more i like it. im still up in the air about it.

those forks are going in the grave with me. i have an addiction. a real bad one. :p

There are more trials frames out there a bunch of the employees made some for there use very custom bikes made for the local scene. ( urban trials) There is even a world record bunny hop frame out there in 26" wheels.
