Hi Barry(?),

Enclosed you'll find a photo of my beloved 1993 Somerville FAT Ti:

It's frame-no. 099T3M - are you sure that your mentioned frame-no. is correct?! I think it could be 089T3S!

A frame in SM (or S) would fit perfect to me... maybe a swap could be interesting!

Where do you come from? Me and my Ti are located in Germany (y)!

FAT regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

That is a great looking bike. I am really interested in figuring out a swap! Unfortunately I’m in the middle of moving, so I’ll need to wait a few weeks until I get settled. I’m in the US, currently in Virginia on the way to Colorado.

As for serial number…very interesting. Here’s another photo of mine. Looks like 099T3S to me!

I’ll send you a DM with my contact information and hopefully we can figure something out this summer.

Cheers
Barry

Hi Barry,

as promised please find enclosed a photo of my frame-number:

It's a big surprise for me to understand, that our frame-no. obviously have been double stamped (my beloved Ti has frame-no. 099T3M, yours seems to be 099T3S).

@I-ROBOT: Do you think you can help us ;)👋?!

Cheers & best regards,
Daniel

Hi Guys
Two things come to mind when I see these pics. The SN on Barry's Small is oriented on the bottom of the bottom bracket where just about all of the FCC bikes had their serial numbers. But the SN on Daniel's Medium is along the side. My guess is that whoever drilled the vent holes in the BB on Daniel's bike, drilled them 90 degrees off of where they should have been in relation to the SN which would have been stamped into the BB prior to drilling. We bought BB shells pre-threaded for the BB casettes and then chased the threads after welding.
As for the repeat of the number 099, there are two possibilities. The first, and somewhat unlikely, is the possibility that we built 99 (or more) of each size of TI frame in 1993. I don't have access to any serial number information so that is just a guess. I believe we used that convention on the steel bikes so it is a possibility. It just doesn't seem like we could have made that many TI frames in '93, that's why I am questioning that possibility.
The second, and more likely, is that somebody just effed up and 099 wound up being used twice. But they each have a different letter at the end of the SN so, technically, they are different.
Probably just that smoky shop thing again ;)
Daniel, I have looked at all the photos you have posted over the years and this is the first time that I noticed the orientation of the SN on your bike. That is definitely a screw-up! Makes your frame that much more rare. And I recognize those sexy welds.
Hope you guys can work something out.
Regards
Scott
