Well, it's finally here.
It's a Wicked, and a 19.5", which may turn out to be a little too large for me, but we'll see. The actual serial number is 02409W, which makes it a '90. My guess is it's a repaint at some point, as the violet isn't pearl, and it does have Yo Eddy Team decals on it. Still looks super cool. One of my favorite Fat paint jobs ever.
The seller/shipper for whatever reason, ignored my request to make sure that the wheel hubs/axles were covered and the frame was protected, and shipped everything in a bike box filled with about 2 gallons of styrofoam peanuts and a few loosely inserted pieces of plain bubble wrap. Unfortunately, one of the wheels gouged the down tube of the frame pretty harshly, so I'll need to figure something out for touch up on the purple. It's going to be ridden, so I'm not heartbroken, and for what I paid, I'm not crying over it, but still...
The bike looks like it was ridden last weekend, covered in a nice layer of California dirt. Outside of that, the bike is pretty nice. It has top-mounted XT thumb-shifters, and pretty basic early XT 7-speed components overall, but it will give me a good reason to open up the box of vintage parts I still have left over in the shop.
Gonna go assemble it now, wipe it down, tune it up and take some photos before I take 'er for a spin tonight if I can find my road pedals and shoes.

Ok, clean up and assembly done and it's REALLY nice. It's a real shame the goof who shipped it was too lazy to protect the frame from the wheels, but it is what it is. It's a REALLY nasty hub gouge.
Also, as a 19", I was really worried that it would be too large for me, but I think by replacing the 135mm stem for a 120mm, I might be fine on it for 90% of what I will be riding. Paint is REALLY nice, which makes me convinced it has been repainted somewhere along the way. Nice job, though. Whomever did it was really good. The violet is not pearl, and I don't know if I have ever seen it without the pearl coat, so that could be a good indicator.
Seat tube is immaculate, as is the BB and the chainstays. The shifters and cables have seen better days, and my guess is that they were on another bike at some point. I'll probably look for Grip Shift 800s or 900s this winter, and replace all of the cables with proper ferrules and caps. The rear cog is a road cluster for some reason, so mated with the XT full size front drives, it's an odd gearset, for sure.
The tires are both on backwards, and the internals on the Manitou are just about dead, but all-in-all, it's a great bike at a pretty decent price tag.
Now for some better photos... fluorescents are damn hard to photograph well. :redface: Excuse the roadie pedals—I need to find something a little more useful for everyday riding.

Interesting bike no doubt - sorry to hear and see the results of poor packing. Same thing happened to me with an IF. I don't know why some sellers are so careless with shipping - not that much to ask to pack something well especially the frame.
It should serve you well nonetheless and maybe Rody could touch it up for you in the future.

The fork is a clean short-travel no adjustment elastomer Manitou, with pretty flat or really soft elastomers in it. I don't think that frame is suspension corrected, so that may be an issue down the road. Maybe I'll have Rody do up a rigid for me. It'll be fine for now, but I may rebuild the Manitou this winter to see what's up with it internally.
I might have a 120mm Control Tech in the shop. Gonna go digging tonight.
Now to find some real pedals and get the drivetrain adjusted properly. I still can't figure out the road cogset, though.

I donno what fork. The bike is kinda all over the map with parts, paint and decals, so period correct is not a big deal. Maybe a Yo Eddy from Rody to complete the look.
Sprayed out the seat tube tonight with WD40 to wipe it out with a few paper towels, and noticed that the oil ran right out the bottom of the BB through a .200" hole someone drilled there. I kinda want to plug it up. Anything can come out of it, sure, but just as easy as anything can get IN.
Every little clue points to a definite repaint somewhere down the line.

i am curious to see how you will compare the fit of this one x the 18in you rode.
i repainted the fork and stem of my wicked in mercedes benz white. frame is cherry.

Could be they had Bullseye cranks on there at some point and installed a zerk fitting as per the Bullseye installation recommendation? Is the hole threaded? I never bothered with the zerk on my bikes.

Because we'd get Fats from the Canadian wholesaler, you pretty much took whatever colour they had on hand. We had a couple repainted before they even hit the floor.
Tony Beek in Toronto painted my frame twice. Beautiful jobs.
After the ad came out, the only factory paint job for me was the spumoni (or whatever the every tube a different colour paint scheme was called) and nothing was sacred.
I know AirArt has re-done this paint scheme, as have a few others. In fact, Sky (VeloCulture) had a Fat repainted a few years go that he sold, and it was a Zig Zag team paint. I don't think it was a Yo, either. I'm trying to find out if he has any more info on it, as I have been thinking this might be the bike he restored.

i saw the pic of that bike from sky on ebay. it looked like it was a yo.
I sent him a note about it yesterday. I seem to remember the buzz about the paint job because it wasn't a Yo, but I can't recall exactly if it was a Wicked or something else. Either way, it was a repaint that wasn't originally a zig zag.
