Nice shot of CC repairing a customers BB in the 80s. Still welding after ~ 44yrs.

I will kick things off with this rarity. Anybody ever see this Ti SAB in the flesh or even ride it ? Was it a one off ?

I think the story was there were 4 (or 5?) made. I worked on acquiring that one back when it was up, but as I recall, in the end the frame did sell for the full $4500 the seller was asking.

Wish I had a clear memory of the TI SAB's. It would make sense that we made more than 1. We had the tooling for the steel SAB and the TI version was not that different. We had to make a fixture that actually pushed the top of the seat tube back while the gusset tube was welded. The shrinkage of the gusset tube welds would pull the seat tube back forward and make it reasonably straight. The bottom bracket was also congested, that made proper shielding difficult. I'd love to see one of those again sometime

Unfortunately, I do not. For most of the time at the Linden St shop, I just kept the hood down and the bright light on. I saw the writing on the wall about a year before Somerville went under. At that point, I was just playing out the string. Oh well

Anybody that had a polished TI frame in the shop did it themselves. I don't think we ever farmed any out to be polished but I could be wrong at this point.

Back in 1986 this stem arrived with my red/yellow Fat Chance. Apparently it was NOT supposed to have left Fat City. I tiger-striped the stem and fork myself.

That is the first Ti Mountainbike frame EVER sold according to GH but he made some before it ( branded as FATs ) for bike shows in 85 afaik. One was stolen I believe. Its awesome she still love it and rides it.

here we go, I dont think it gets much rarer lol, 1 of 1 softride, based on a wicked and serial 001..
a bit of background is that another was built but not the same, different beam mounting layout etc rather than the traditional bent/sloping TT
anyway will build it up later this year for all to appreciate
